Your First Massage: What to Expect

You are NOT alone if you're feeling nervous about a first-time massage experience. Booking your first massage can feel exciting - and a little nerve-wracking. I've seen it time and time again in my almost 13 years in practice: most people walk in nervous and walk out saying they wish they hadn't waited so long. It's my goal to create a space that is safe, inclusive, and where you feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way. I hope this guide helps you take away the guesswork so you can feel at ease and just enjoy the experience.
Before You Arrive
Wear anything you feel comfortable in! Many women like to set the vibe before they even leave the house and choose outfits they don't need a bra with. Comfy-cozy is the dress code. Rock on with your bad self. Didn't have time to shave your legs? Don't sweat it - seriously! Please know that if there is anything you're self-conscious of - I'm not thinking about it. ALL bodies are beautiful and deserving of healthy touch.
When you book your appointment, there will be an intake form that helps me get to know you. You'll be asked about your health history, preferences, and goals.
When You're in the Room
We'll go over your intake form together. I'll explain everything before we start, right down to which sheets to get under and where your face should rest. I'll step out so you'll have privacy to get settled on the table. Only the part that I'm working on will be uncovered - this is called draping, and it ensures your comfort and modesty. Typically, women remove their bra. Underwear - some leave on and some don't. I will work within whatever means you're comfortable with. You're always in charge of your session. Please feel free to ask for adjustments at any time (pressure, temperature, music, etc.) - I want you to LOVE your time on my table.
During the Massage
This is YOUR time. You can choose to talk or stay quiet - I'm there for both and I'll follow your lead. Your stomach might gurgle, you may want to sigh, you may fall asleep, or you may even feel a little emotion rise up. All of these things are normal, and great signs that your body feels safe enough to relax. If you need to use the restroom during your massage, please ask - it's better to take a break than to lay there uncomfortable and not fully enjoying your session.
After the Massage
I'll step out and let you get dressed. I'll do a quick check-in on how you're feeling. I'll give you a water for the road (drinking water will help you integrate the work). Occasionally clients get so relaxed they may feel a little lightheaded or wobbly - if that happens please let me know and you're welcome to sit and rest a bit before driving. Every body responds differently, and all of it is part of the healing process.
Your first massage is about more than just releasing muscle tension - it's about giving yourself permission to pause and come home to your body. It's about permission to just BE. And that's the kind of experience I love cultivating. If you've been curious about booking, I'd love to welcome you to my table. You're worth it.
